Absorbance of ultraviolet light at 254 nm, the standard surrogate for dissolved organic carbon and DBP formation potential.
UV254 (also written UVA254 or SUVA when normalized to DOC) is the most established optical surrogate for the aromatic dissolved organic compounds that consume disinfectant and form disinfection by-products. Because the measurement is purely optical, it is fast, reagent-free, and ideal for continuous deployment at intakes, in treatment trains, and across distribution systems.
